Skin Tags

Skin tags are small growths that hang off your skin. They’re common and harmless, but can be removed if they’re bothering you.

A dermatologist can help determine the most appropriate treatment plan for each individual case. Our priority is to ensure your condition receives the right care and support. That is why we take time to understand every patient’s needs, allowing us to create personalised treatment plans.

Laser Treatment

Lasers work by emitting a very strong light of a single wavelength that is carefully matched to the absorption characteristics of the target tissue. The intense pulsed light is absorbed by the target and converted into heat, thereby destroying the target. Because this destructive process is over in a fraction of a second, there is little time for the heat to affect other tissue nearby, and because of this the risk of scarring is minimised. The body then excretes the damaged cells.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is a form of therapy that involves exposing the body to extreme cold temperatures for several minutes to help reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, improve circulation, and boost overall health and wellness. Cryotherapy has been used to treat a range of conditions, including arthritis, muscle and joint pain, and even certain skin conditions.

Curettage & Cautery

Curettage and cautery is a medical procedure that is often used to remove abnormal tissue, such as tags or moles, from the skin. Curettage involves using a small spoon-shaped instrument, called a curette, to scrape away the abnormal tissue from the surface of the skin. This is usually done under local anesthesia, which numbs the area and makes the procedure relatively painless.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Acne usually gets better over a year or two, so the first line of treatment is to simply suppress the inflammation until the acne disappears naturally. Treatment might involve lotions or tablets such as antibiotics or hormone suppression in the form of a contraceptive pill (for females only).

However, acne that is very disfiguring, scarring or long-standing is classed as severe, and requires stronger treatment. There are drugs that offer a good chance of a cure for acne.

Our Acne Dermatologists can offer effective, specialist acne treatment to patients to help cure or control their disease.

Consultant dermatologists have years of experience in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acne. An appointment with one of our trusted experts is likely to be the most effective way to treat your acne. Sadly, acne cannot yet be cured, but it can be controlled with treatment.

Acne is very common in teenagers and younger adults. About 80% of the UK population between 11 and 30 are affected by acne. Acne is most common in girls from the ages of 14 to 17, and in boys from the ages of 16 to 19. Most people have acne on and off for several years before their symptoms start to improve as they get older. Acne often disappears when a person is in their mid-20s. In some cases, acne can continue into adult life. About 3% of adults have acne over the age of 35.

No. Poor hygiene doesn’t cause acne. Cleansing your skin daily and exfoliating weekly can help prevent pores from becoming clogged, this approach is useful for both people with and without acne.

Yes, acne is known to run in families, so if your mother and father suffered with acne, you are more likely to.
