What does Dermalux LED Phototherapy do?
LED Phototherapy is the application of beneficial light to our skin to stimulate various cellular processes to produce a therapeutic effect. Dermalux ® uses evidence-based wavelengths delivered at a skin-enhancing intensity and dose to activate cellular renewal and repair, fuel the manufacture of collagen and elastin, reduce inflammation and destroy acne causing bacteria.
While Ultra Violet (UV) light can be damaging, controlled levels of Red, Blue and Near Infrared light can produce vitamin D, providing energy and serotonin, as well as accelerating tissue healing. By harnessing the power of three specifically chosen light waves and applying them to the skin at clinically proven wavelengths, Dermalux® stimulates cellular reactions, recharging the cells and energising them to heal quicker and rejuvenate faster, resulting in improved tissue repair and reduced inflammation. A different combination of the lights will be used during the treatment depending on your skin and the results you are looking to achieve.
Dermalux can be used on acne to kill acne bacteria. Active acne will be visibly reduced in a few treatment sessions and, with continued use, LED will prevent facial acne returning. The treatment can also be used to help treat Rosacea, reducing the appearance of red blood vessels, and Psoriasis, by preventing bacterial infection and relieving itchiness, the UV free light stimulates the body’s own natural response for healing.
Following a treatment, there are some immediate visible changes in the skin but most changes occur naturally over a series of treatments. During your consultation at Stratum Clinics Cheltenham, your dermatologist will advise the best combination of light and course of treatment depending on the condition of your skin.

Frequent Asked Questions.
Is Dermalux™ LED Phototherapy the best treatment for my skin?
Everyone can benefit from LED Phototherapy. It reverses the signs if ageing, clears acne and blemishes and accelerates healing.
What skin conditions can be treated with LED Phototherapy?
LED Phototherapy is clinically proven for the treatment of a wide range of skin, including acne, rosacea, eczema, lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, sun damage, dehydration and open pores.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments can vary with age, skin type and condition. With LED Phototherapy the results are cumulative. Treatments taken in quick succession will achieve optimum results and maintenance treatments may also be recommended. Furthermore, as phototherapy does not harm the skin, there is no limit to the amount of treatment you can have.
How long will the results last?
Results can last for several months following a course of LED Phototherapy treatments. However, as with any skin treatment, maintenance sessions are advised to ensure lasting results.
How soon can I expect to see results?
With LED Phototherapy the visible effects are immediate. After just one treatment skin is incredibly hydrated, plump and radiant and any redness and irritation is calmed.
Are there any side effects?
No. There is no risk of irritation, side effects or down time that may be associated with more invasive procedures.
Is LED Phototherapy safe?
LED Phototherapy is a heat free treatment that does not contain harmful UV wavelengths and therefore cannot damage skin tissue or create photosensitivity. It is clinically proven to be safe for all skin types, including darker skins and the most sensitive skin conditions.
Will LED Phototherapy give me a tan?
No. LED Phototherapy does not contain the harmful UV rays that stimulate the melanin in the skin to produce a ‘sun tan’ effect.
Can I go in the sun after LED Phototherapy?
Yes. As LED therapy does not create photosensitivity, it is a safe treatment directly pre and post sun exposure.
Does LED light therapy work equally on all skin types?
The treatment times have been calculated to ensure optimum results. Darker skins may require longer exposure times to have the same level of effectiveness.
Can makeup be reapplied directly after the treatment?
Yes. The treatment should be followed by the application of suitable skin care products including a sunscreen. Makeup can then be applied.
